By Carol Crittendon:  My two cents

By the end of this school year, my 7-year-old daughter will be part of the Sidney community.
Where she is now in North Carolina, there are many programs from which to choose for her after-school care. Where she is in Roanoke Rapids, the Boys & Girls Club, a school-sponsored program called Place to Play and even a fantastic after-school and summer camp Tae Kwon Do program are all options.
I worry about where she will go once she is here. She can’t come to work with me every day and she will need to be supervised. I am starting my search now because I know that she will need care.
I guess this is where I get on the soapbox and tell you that one of the best things that Richland County has going for our youth is the Boys & Girls Club, but it is sorely in need of a permanent space. You can be instrumental in making that happen. On Feb. 6, the Elks’ first annual Bootleggers’ Ball will help support the Boys & Girls Club building fund and also provide grants to children of Richland County to attend Camp Mak-A-Dream. Tickets are $100 each and can be purchased at Sidney Liquors.
