Registration Planned for the Boys & Girls Club

By Bill Vander Weele Sidney Herald

Registration for the Boys & Girls Club of Richland County for this year will take place July 27-28 at the club’s location at Central School.

Three meetings are planned each day at 7 a.m., noon and 7 p.m.

“We’re hoping that people won’t have to stay in line all night,” Missy Smies, program director at the club, said.

During the meetings, discussion will include expectations of the club, expectations of parents along with required paperwork.

The good news is that with additional staff, the club can serve 150 students this year.

Cost for the program is $360 per school year with $180 per additional child in a family. If fees are paid by Sept. 1, costs are $306 and $153.

Cost per week is $10 per child and $5 per additional child.

Smies notes fees are higher than prior years but still 10 percent of actual costs.

“I think it’s important to know that if the costs are too great for some families, we will work with them and won’t turn away any kids because of that,” Smies said.

She is also excited about new offerings at the club.

“We will have a lot more programs that the Boys and Girls Club of America offers on a regular basis,” Smies said.

In addition, a new middle school program is being offered to take place at the Sidney Middle School.
“The school has been very supportive of us,” Smies said.

Topics for the middle school program will include money management, self esteem, healthy living and homework skills as well as fun time.
